Abstract

One of the biggest problems with operating room scheduling, is the variability of surgery durations. In this talk, we present a new technique to develop chance constraints to deal with surgery variability. We show how deterministic schedules suffer when surgeries have uncertain durations and how, using chance constraints, an operational schedule can compute better solution. With our technique, the decision maker can better balance between utilization and overtime, which we show through experimental results.
